Building Services Engineering makes buildings work; it's a specialist branch of engineering within the construction sector. Electricians undertake the installation, testing, pre-commissioning and decommissioning of large scale industrial and commercial electrical systems which are found in large commercial and industrial buildings like office blocks, factories, schools and hospitals. These systems provide power and lighting to the buildings which incorporates all electrically fed equipment, such as lifts, boilers, pumps and workshops.

More than that, with the chance to get hands-on with Rolls-Royce engines we offer the sort of practical experience that you can’t get anywhere else.
Join us as a Practical Apprentice and you’ll gain a strong foundation in the hands-on skills you need to work on a Rolls-Royce engine – all in your first year. Once you’re ready, you’ll move on to placements where you’ll work with and be supported by some of the world’s top engineers. In numerous attachments during your second year, you’ll broaden and deepen your knowledge before being aligned to a specific role in the business. Along the way, you’ll work towards completing your Apprenticeship framework, which will include studying for a Level 3 NVQ or SVQ as well as a Level 3 BTEC Diploma in Engineering technical certificate.
What you’ll do
This is hands-on work. So, whether you’re stripping down engines, wiring complex systems, fitting chemical analysis equipment or are making and maintaining the tools we need to craft precision engineering, you’ll be making a big impact. Throughout your apprenticeship you can expect to get your hands on state-of-the-art products, equipment or machinery from day one. All while being guided and supported by engineering experts.
What you’ll need
As well as showing a passion for practical engineering, you’ll need to be articulate, numerate and a great team player. You’ll also have to learn fast and have the discipline to balance studying for a qualification with the demands of your job. We also expect you to bring us passes at grade D or above in Maths, English, Physics or Chemistry, and a technical subject at GCSE, Standard Grade or an equivalent level. Out trainee scheme will give you the opportunity to train as a civil engineer, quantity surveyor or construction manager. From day one, our programme is designed to give you the best monitored, relevant and practical experience in parallel with academic study, tailored to suit your chosen career.
We offer a fully funded five-year school leaver scheme where, on completion, you will gain a qualification as either a quantity surveyor, civil engineer or construction manager. How do I join the scheme?
All we require is that you are over 16 years of age and have achieved:
SQA Higher: ABBB including Maths, Physics, Technological studies or Engineering Science at B
SQA Higher: ABBC plus English and Maths at NAT 5
SQA Higher: ABBC plus English and Maths at NAT 5
You'll spend one day a week attending University studying towards your degree. It's not all about study and exams though - when you're not in University, you'll be working with experienced colleagues on a range of high profile projects.
You will get responsibility from an early stage in your career and play a key role in helping deliver projects.

Apprenticeship Duration: 4 years
Entry Requirements: Five National 5s at grade C or above - including: English, Maths and Physics (or equivalent) + 3 Highers at C or above in Maths, English and a Science Subject.
Salary: Starting at £15,205 with yearly increases related to performance. Final salary upon programme completion of circa £29,000
As an Engineering Technician Apprentice with BAE Systems, you will be working with a team of highly skilled, dedicated employees and fellow apprentices from across our Naval Ships Business. You'll be part of a team that designs and manufactures the next generation of complex surface ships and combat systems for customers around the world, including the Royal Navy.
Through a combination of classroom based and hands on learning in our engineering office you will be closely mentored to gain the skills required to excel within our technical working environment.
Working to both practical and academic targets, you will undertake a series of placements across our training partner colleges to develop a full range of skills in your specific discipline of engineering.
Completing your Apprenticeship
At the end of the four years, you will have obtained an SVQ Level 3 in Engineering Technical Support and a HND in Engineering Systems, developed a range of practical skills within your engineering disciplines and gained invaluable work experience.
All of these achievements will give you a firm footing on your journey to your desired career and would lead particularly well into a role as a Detailed Design Engineer.
