What is Scottish Apprenticeship Week?
Organised by Skills Development Scotland (SDS) Scottish Apprenticeship Week (SAW) is an annual campaign highlighting the commitment of businesses who have invested in the skills of their workforce by providing an entry point to employment straight from school. It also showcases the successes of apprentices who have chosen to get a job, get paid and get qualified to develop their careers. SDS would like businesses, industry, colleges, councils, training providers and those with a shared interest in the success of Modern Apprenticeships to back the week and encourage many more employers to take part in supporting the apprenticeship and early career routes. Our focus this year is on those who influence young people on their career decisions and how we, as a sector, support them to be better informed about opportunities and routes into the sector. We will achieve this by using some tried and tested activities as well as trialling some new ones. Activities include: Tours to FBS companies from across the sector Teacher/Career Guidance Workshop – NEW (Thursday 3rd March) Teacher Apprentice Visits (throughout week) Employer Modern Apprentice Event (employers only Wednesday 2nd March) Parent Event – NEW (Tuesday 1st March) The tours provide young people with opportunities to; learn more about the participating company, look round the office environment, learn how companies recruit, including internship, graduate, school leaver & apprenticeship programmes and meet members of the organisation.
